Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need previous SUP experience to take this course?

Yes. You should feel confident standing, paddling, and maneuvering your board in calm conditions. If you’re still learning the basics, we recommend starting with our SUP Safety Basic Course first.

Not at all! While we cover dynamic conditions, the skills you’ll learn are relevant in any setting—from calm lakes to open rivers. If you paddle with others or explore less familiar waters, this course helps you stay prepared and confident.

Dress in layers and wear clothing that can get a little wet—quick-dry or moisture-wicking fabrics work best. Bring water, sunscreen, and a towel or change of clothes for after. Water shoes are recommended for comfort and traction, especially when launching or landing.

We’ll have dry bags available for small personal items, and we’re happy to hold onto your keys during the session to keep them safe and dry.

Yes, absolutely! You are more than welcome to bring your own gear to the course. In  fact, we recommend it as it is good to practice on the gear you will be using. If you are bringing your own board, please make sure to bring your paddle, life jacket, leash, and a whistle.

However, if you don’t have your own equipment yet, no problem—we offer quality rentals (board, paddle, PFD, and leash) that can be added during booking.

Please arrive 10–15 minutes early so we can get you checked in, go over safety and gear, and make the most of your time on the water. Lessons begin promptly at the scheduled time—late arrivals may miss key instruction or may not be able to participate if the group has already launched.

If you’re bringing your own equipment and need to inflate your board, we recommend arriving at least 30–35 minutes early to ensure you’re fully set up and ready to launch on time.

Safety is always our top priority. If conditions are unsafe due to wind, storms, or other factors, we’ll contact you to reschedule or provide a full refund. You can review our full Cancellation Policy for more details.
